Studio One - How do I add a 3rd party VST to Studio One? Studio One 3: MaiTai; Studio One - How do I split a Stereo file into two Mono files in Studio One? Studio One 3. I was wondering if their was an effect that changes ones vocal recording, and if yes how to do it. For example making it very low or high frequency. A good example is from numerous black eyed peas songs. Nothing like autotune, just making the voice very high or low, i have studio one artist not pro btw. Aug 19, 2015  A few common vocal effects: 1. Gate - clamp down on ambient noise 2. EQ - HP filter is a must over hear to get rid of some rumble/low end info, then EQ to taste.

Well, thanks to you wonderful folks, I am slowly journeying down the recording road.
My next quest is harmonies, but I think I've found all the videos I need for that area.
Are there any common vocal effects that are typically used?
Thanks again to all!

I'm no expert Jack but the 3 things I would generally try are EQ, Compression and reverb.
There are plenty of sites with instructions and suggestions re EQ. Just google eqing vocals. Generally start with a high pass filter, just enough to cut any undesirable rumble. Try settings between 60 and 120 Hz. There are various points to try cutting ( and generally try cutting before boosting). Use a parametric EQ and with a big and unrealistic boost, sweep up and down the frequency range looking for sounds you don't like. Then apply a bit of cut at that frequency. All pretty much a matter of taste though.
Compression? well I don't think I have enough years left to totally master that one. Just experiment.
A good tip is when you have added and changes something try turning it off to see if it actually sounds better or worse with it on.
Best advice is just relax and enjoy. It is all totally non destructive.

EQ/Compression/Reverb busses, yes
Also:
Autotune (morseo on harmonies so they don't poke out)
De-Esser
Delay
Chorus (for thickening)
Exciter (moreso on lead)
mix n match as desired.

A few common vocal effects:
1. Gate - clamp down on ambient noise
2. EQ - HP filter is a must over hear to get rid of some rumble/low end info, then EQ to taste
3. Compression - even out the volume
4. De-esser - most vocals get a little bit to a lot depending on the track/singer/microphone, this gets rid of the hard 'ess' sounds
Additional things:
5. Delay - sometimes
6. Reverb - usually on a buss, not always
Less commonly:
7. Modulation (chorus/flange/ADT/slight pitch changes) - on rare occasion I might put some modulation on a vocal
8. Tuning - I generally don't pitch correct vocals, but Auto-Tune and Melodyne are common
9. Vocoder - Computer voices/synth voices/etc
Not quite 'vocal effects' but often on a chain:
10: Console simulation, tape simulation, other saturators - like salt, these are ubiquitous here and added to taste
